All the good domains are gone? NP just use (Pet name + Pet type).com
I was speaking to one of the partners at fellow Iowa City, Iowa business BudCat and I was asking them how they got their unique business name. Isaac was telling me a common story you will hear from folks looking for a domain name for their business: all the good .com domains were taken. One of the partners had a cat named "Bud" so they tried "BudCat.com" and they went with it. Pretty creative logo too which looks a little like a cat but is actually an upside down game controller. So how did the BudCat.com domain work out for them? Not too shabby: the company is now 60+ developers strong, has worked on top game titles including Madden Football and Guitar Hero, has never missed a development deadline in their history (got to love that!) and recently sold their business to Activision.

The fact that the grand-dad of someone you know smoked his whole life and yet lived to be 105 does not mean we all could start smoking without being worried.
I still think having a good domain matters, and they are pretty much all gone (so yeah you need to cash out to play the game right).
Hey Daniel, don’t worry I would much rather start any project with a premium domain for sure but you are right it is a very expensive game now but many times worth the price.
Having the perfect domain really is about 50% of the web presence for your visitors, the rest of the percents are about 40% content, that’s major, and the other 10% is SEO. Really, Google will eventually sniff out your site, just make sure your ready for it… or your stuck with a weird listing.. I have a few sites now that have been found by Google and their site maps keep changing on me, and for me… makes my life easy.
I have found that putting “my” in front of a name can give you a good solid domain name. Several years ago I had a website that was fashion oriented but the name I wanted was parked. Someone had registered it and it was just sitting there. I took that domain name and added “my” to the front of it and voila…… I had the domain I wanted and it was still easy to remember and had the added effect of personalizing the site.
There are still some good domain names over there. Recently I bought TheVisibility and ProgressiveAdvertiser (.com) as well as SubmitLocal (.net). It just takes a lot of time to find some good name which GoDaddy missed or forget to include as premium domain.
Anyway, GoDaddy is the evil which stole 90% of all domains and speculate price.
