There are still some good domain names over there. Recently I bought TheVisibility and ProgressiveAdvertiser (.com) as well as SubmitLocal (.net). It just takes a lot of time to find some good name which GoDaddy missed or forget to include as premium domain.
Anyway, GoDaddy is the evil which stole 90% of all domains and speculate price.

I have found that putting "my" in front of a name can give you a good solid domain name. Several years ago I had a website that was fashion oriented but the name I wanted was parked. Someone had registered it and it was just sitting there. I took that domain name and added "my" to the front of it and voila...... I had the domain I wanted and it was still easy to remember and had the added effect of personalizing the site.

Having the perfect domain really is about 50% of the web presence for your visitors, the rest of the percents are about 40% content, that's major, and the other 10% is SEO. Really, Google will eventually sniff out your site, just make sure your ready for it... or your stuck with a weird listing.. I have a few sites now that have been found by Google and their site maps keep changing on me, and for me... makes my life easy.

Hey Daniel, don't worry I would much rather start any project with a premium domain for sure but you are right it is a very expensive game now but many times worth the price.

The fact that the grand-dad of someone you know smoked his whole life and yet lived to be 105 does not mean we all could start smoking without being worried.

I still think having a good domain matters, and they are pretty much all gone (so yeah you need to cash out to play the game right).
